Hiedsieck & Co Monopole

Heidsieck & Co Monopole was founded in 1875 by Florens-Louis Heidsieck and is now owned by Vranken in Epernay. The non vintage Monopole Blue is the popular Champagne of the range which also includes a Blue Top Premier Crus, an Extra Dry, and a Gold Top Millesime 2000. The Vranken company also boast the houses of Pommery and Demoiselle in their portfolio. The Hiedsieck cuvée called Diamant Bleu Vintage 1907 was located in the shipwreck of the Swedish freighter Jönköping in the Gulf of Finland back in 1998. Originally this the ship was charted to deliver spirits to the Imperial Court of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia going via Sweden. Somewhat unfortunately, the ship was torpedoed by a German submarine in 1916 during World War I. Many of the bottles survived in the very cold waters. Some 2000 bottles were salvaged from the ship and have been sold at auctions all over the world. They are a bit of a novelty but a historic one so have a tale to tell behind them.
